چکیده
Originating and managing debt are cognitively demanding tasks that have become more challenging in the past few decades with increasing variety complexity of available financial products. We examine how cognitive ability is related to burdens among older adults whether this relationship has changed over time increasingly complex landscape. find an important predictor age individuals higher taken on levels relative their counterparts environments, leading increased fragility relatively sophisticated consumers. Our findings broadly inconsistent intermediaries systematically pushing complicated products onto unsophisticated borrowers.

Aging and speech perception: beyond hearing threshold and cognitive ability.
BACKGROUND Older adults manifest difficulties in speech perception, especially when speech is accompanied by noise or when speech is rapid. Several explanations have been suggested to account for age-related changes in speech perception, such as changes in hearing sensitivity or a more general decline in cognitive functioning. The purpose of the present study was to directly examine the relativ...

We propose the concept of Cognitive Debt to characterize thoughts and behaviors that increase vulnerability to symptomatic Alzheimer's disease (AD). Evidence indicates that depression, anxiety, sleep disorder, neuroticism, life stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder increase risk for AD, and we suggest they do so by increasing Cognitive Debt. Repetitive negative thinking (RNT), a behavioral...
متن کاملBrain iron deposits are associated with general cognitive ability and cognitive aging.
A novel analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans based on multispectral image fusion was used to quantify iron deposits in basal ganglia and microbleeds in 143 nondemented subjects of the generally healthy Lothian Birth Cohort, who were tested for general cognitive ability (intelligence) at mean ages of 11, 70, and 72 years. Possessing more iron deposits at age 72 was significantly as...
متن کاملCognitive Neuroscience of Aging: Linking Cognitive and Cerebral Aging
This book is divided into four main sections. The first section describes noninvasive measures of cerebral aging, including structural (e.g., volumetric MRI), chemical (e.g., dopamine PET), electrophysiological (e.g., ERPs), and hemodynamic (e.g., fMRI), and discusses how they can be linked to behavioral measures of cognitive aging. The second section reviews evidence for the effects of aging o...
